Using Ogless

Most screen savers only do the basics - run when the PC has been idle for a while and then stop when you press a key or move the mouse. Ogless offers many more options than that.

Firstly, it does lots of different effects one after the other - completely automatically. Most effects are entirely unique - because there are so many variations the exact combination you see will never have been seen before. Secondly, the effects are played in different orders and using different colors greatly enhancing the variability of what you see.

What is more you can interact and change options without stopping the screen savers. By a number of single key presses you can change the way it runs:

Key	Action
F1	Display information about the running Ogless screen saver effect and allows a range of configuration actions.
N	Stops the current saver effect and then starts the Next one. Ideal if you are bored with the current effect.
Z	Stops the current saver effect and restarts it, selecting new options. This is useful if you like the general effect but would like to see another variation on the same idea.
Other	Closes down the screen saver

When you press the F1 key a screen of information is displayed telling you the scheme it is running; the effect type within the scheme and a summary of its settings (colors, motion etc.). It offers a greater range of configuration options that are selected with a single key press.

Key	Action
Q	Quits the screen saver - closing it down.
R	Resume the screen saver at the point you pressed F1. You can also press ESC (escape) key to resume the current saver.
S	Save the current screen saver image to an image file. You can then resume the effect.
F	Copy the current effects settings and put in your Favorites scheme. All the parameters are 'frozen' so you can repeat exactly the same effect again and again. To use your favorites scheme just select it from the list of schemes in the main configuration screen. You can then resume the effect.
D	Closes the screen saver and display the Download settings for Ogless - this lets you download new or updated schemes to your PC quickly and easily.
W	Closes the screen saver and go to our web site. Fire up a browser to get at the latest Ogless information.
C	Closes the screen saver and starts up the Configuration screen for Ogless.
H	Closes the screen saver and then displays help information about using Ogless (such as this page).
N	Stops the current saver effect and then starts the Next one. Ideal if you are bored with the current effect.
Z	Stops the current saver effect and restarts it, selecting new options. This is useful if you like the general effect but would like to see another variation on the same idea.
Other	Other keys are ignored

Ogless can also be configured while it is not running. You can do this via the menu items it installs on your start menu or via the desktop. Click on the desktop and select the 'Screen saver' option. Make sure Ogless is the selected screen saver in the list and then use 'Settings' to configure it.

In some of the schemes (notably Countdown) one of the saver effects displays the time interval to an event. You can configure the time (for instance when you go to lunch or leave work) and the greeting text to be displayed when the event occurs.
